Wind and weather

Too far ahead for a forecast yet, so these are the conditions on the same day last year. Winds were light, around 2 to 7 km/h, mostly south south easterly. Dry, about 16°C early and up to 25°C. The live forecast appears here automatically in the two weeks before the ride.

Typical conditions from Open-Meteo records for the same day in 2025. Check the live forecast on the morning.

Riding notes

  • Crops are spread over the road to be crushed by passing traffic. They can be slippery, so take care.
  • Traffic builds sharply as you approach Lucknow. Stay together and follow the crew's directions into the city.
  • Look out for the three 26 m bronze statues on the outskirts of the city.
  • Busy roads for the first 10 km and again from about 95 to 135 km.
  • Take care at the roundabout just before 165 km: traffic joining has right of way. There is another roundabout at the finish; walk it if unsure.
  • Anyone at risk of finishing after 17.00 gets picked up at the 130 km afternoon stop.
  • Target finish 17.00. If you’re behind at the afternoon stop, the crew will ask you to take a lift.

The country you ride through

History on the road

40 to 90 km

Bilgram

Bilgram was a famous seat of Persian and Arabic learning under the Mughals and produced scholars and poets for centuries.

90 to 130 km

Sandila

Sandila is known across India for its laddoos, a sweet worth looking out for along the way.

130 to 178 km

Malihabad and Lucknow

Malihabad is the mango capital of India, famous for the Dasheri mango. Lucknow became the capital of the Nawabs of Awadh in 1775 and is renowned for its manners, poetry and food. Its Residency was besieged for nearly five months in 1857, and its ruins still stand as they were left.

Local heroes

Famous faces from along the route

The Urdu poet Josh Malihabadi was born in Malihabad in 1898. Lucknow claims the actress and singer Begum Akhtar, the queen of the ghazal, and the courtly culture of the nawabs gave India dishes such as the Lucknowi biryani and the galouti kebab.
